Actually, I was equally offended by their animated commercials featuring squirrels, flies and other stuff using minority accents/slang and kind of promoted stereotypes!!
I think Sony are thinking “heck we are Sony we can get away with anything”, not realizing that the days of them dominating the market of electronic gadgets are long gone.
Maybe they are aiming for controversy, you know, all pub is good pub.
